I teared up during specific parts of the performance. We had a fantastic time at the show, especially since it’s one of my husband’s all-time favorites. He played it incessantly, and he expressed a wish to see it in the West End someday. I kept an eye out for tickets, which were initially expensive, but fortunately, I managed to secure them at a fantastic price for excellent seats.

Weekday performances at London’s St. Martin’s Theatre are more sedate, but evening performances are the best for delving into this enigma. With a flexible schedule, the show runs all week with a few matinees. Tickets are reasonably priced and available online, though reservations are advised in advance. Seeing “The Mousetrap” is more than just taking in a play; it’s an opportunity to immerse oneself in a historical theatre legacy, which is a monument to Agatha Christie’s enduring storytelling skills that appeal to a diverse variety of viewers, particularly those who enjoy mysteries.

Sister Act

Beverley Knight returns to the stage as Deloris Van Cartier in Sister Act at London’s Dominion Theatre, alongside a talented cast including Lesley Joseph, Clive Rowe, Lemar, and Lizzie Bea. Ruth Jones of Gavin and Stacey fame makes her West End musical debut as Mother Superior. Knight’s powerhouse performance and comedic timing shine, particularly in her rendition of the Lord’s Prayer. With her sass and larger-than-life presence, Knight captivates audiences.

The musical’s catchy numbers, like “Take Me to Heaven, Fabulous Baby!, Raise Your Voice, Sister Act” are elevated by Knight’s dazzling performance in Morgan Large’s stunning costumes. Lizzie Bea impresses as Sister Mary Robert, and the finale, featuring Large’s vibrant habits, is a visual delight.

At its heart, Sister Act embodies the essence of humanity, teaching valuable lessons about self-discovery, acceptance, and unity amidst diversity. With a diverse cast of women of all ages, the musical joyously celebrates the strength of sisterhood and the journey of embracing individuality while moving forward together.

Tickets are available until August 31st, 2024 although Beverley will only be performing until the 8th of June 2024. Who knows? I might head back again for the show a second time.




Guess what?
I loved the show so much that I went back to see it a second time with my daughters and another friend in August when Alexandra Burke was performing and we had a fabulous time. Seeing it a second time made me reflect on how I am part of a terrific sister act group.

Hamnet” adapted by Lolita Chakrabarti and directed by Erica Whyman, played at Garrick Theatre offered a poignant exploration of the life of Agnes Hathaway, wife of William Shakespeare, and their family dynamics in the historic town of Stratford-upon-Avon. Agnes, played by Madeline Mantock, emerged as a central figure, portrayed with depth and nuance as a woman of remarkable courage, certainty, and resilience. Her unwavering devotion to her family, particularly her husband, played by Tom Varey, is depicted as a pillar of strength amidst their challenges.

Throughout the performance, Agnes’s character is revealed to possess a rare maturity and foresight, as she navigates the complexities of marriage and parenthood in the shadow of her husband’s burgeoning literary career. Her sacrifices, made at great personal cost, underscore the depth of her love and commitment.

The heart-wrenching loss of their son, Hamnet, serves as a focal point of the narrative, evoking raw emotions of sorrow and grief. The play sensitively explores the impact of this tragedy on the Shakespeare family, delving into the varied ways in which individuals cope with profound loss within the context of a close-knit family unit.

A particularly poignant revelation within the play is the connection between Hamnet’s untimely death and Shakespeare’s enduring masterpiece, “Hamlet.” Learning that Shakespeare immortalized his son’s memory through his art added a layer of depth to the narrative, showcasing how creativity can serve as a transformative force in the face of grief. Through “Hamlet,” the Shakespeare family finds a means to honor Hamnet’s legacy, ensuring that his memory lives on for eternity.

In essence, “Hamnet” is a powerful portrayal of love, loss, and the transcendent power of art in the face of unimaginable tragedy. It serves as a poignant reminder of the resilience of the human spirit and the enduring legacy of those we hold dear.



Julius Caesar (Currently not in production)

The production of “Julius Caesar” at Shakespeare’s Globe was a compelling and immersive rendition of William Shakespeare’s timeless play. Set against the iconic backdrop of the Globe Theatre, the performance explored the political intrigue, betrayal, and power struggles surrounding the Roman leader Julius Caesar.

The production featured dynamic and engaging performances, capturing the intensity of the characters and the political turmoil of the era. With its authentic Elizabethan setting and the Globe’s unique staging, the production offered a true Shakespearean experience, resonating with audiences through its powerful language and dramatic storytelling.

Hetty Feather (Currently not in production)


The 2015 West End production of “Hetty Feather” was a captivating theatrical adaptation of Jacqueline Wilson’s novel, following the adventures of Hetty, an imaginative and spirited foundling. The show, set against the backdrop of Victorian London, brought to life Hetty’s journey as she sought her true identity and a place to call home.

The production featured engaging storytelling, lively performances, and inventive staging, capturing the essence of Wilson’s beloved character. “Hetty Feather” in the West End provided an enchanting and heartwarming experience, appealing to both children and adults with its blend of drama, humor, and poignant moments.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (Currently not in production)


The theatrical production of “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” directed by Sam Mendes, was a whimsical and visually stunning adaptation of Roald Dahl’s classic tale. The show took the audience on a magical journey into Willy Wonka’s fantastical chocolate factory, where the lucky few, including the impoverished Charlie Bucket, got to explore the wonders within.


With Mendes at the helm, the production boasted creative set designs, vibrant costumes, and captivating performances. The narrative unfolded with a perfect blend of humor, fantasy, and heartwarming moments. Overall, the production under Sam Mendes’ direction delivered a delightful and enchanting experience for audiences of all ages.



Dream Girls (Currently not in production)

The 2018 production of “Dreamgirls” was a dazzling theatrical experience that brought to life the journey of a talented girl group, The Dreams, as they navigated the music industry and faced the challenges of fame.

Set against the backdrop of the Motown era, the show featured soulful music, dynamic performances, and glamorous costumes. The Savoy Theatre hosted this electrifying production, offering both evening and matinee shows. The narrative explores themes of ambition, rivalry, and the price of success. With tickets available in various price ranges, the 2018 “Dreamgirls” production captivated audiences with its powerhouse performances and memorable tunes, making it a must-see for fans of musical theatre.

The Nutcracker

“The Nutcracker” at the English National Opera (ENO), London Coliseum, is an enchanting and magical ballet production that brings Tchaikovsky’s beloved holiday classic to life. Set in a festive atmosphere, the performance follows the journey of a young girl named Clara, who receives a magical nutcracker doll on Christmas Eve.


As the story unfolds, Clara is transported to a whimsical world filled with dancing snowflakes, a Sugar Plum Fairy, and other fantastical characters. The ENO’s production of “The Nutcracker” is celebrated for its beautiful choreography, stunning costumes, and timeless score, creating a captivating and festive experience for audiences of all ages.


It’s a Wonderful Life

Jake Heggie’s operatic adaptation of “It’s a Wonderful Life” brought Frank Capra’s beloved film to the English National Opera, London Coliseum. The story, originally a heartwarming Christmas film, followed the life of George Bailey, a man contemplating suicide on Christmas Eve until an angel shows him what life would have been like if he had never existed.

Heggie’s adaptation featured operatic elements, including vocal performances, orchestral arrangements, and theatrical staging, ultimately providing a new artistic interpretation of the classic tale.




The Handmaid’s Tale

Immerse yourself in the gripping and thought-provoking world of “The Handmaid’s Tale” at the English National Opera, London Coliseum, where a compelling adaptation unfolds with powerful storytelling and a riveting performance that leaves a lasting impact.

In this impactful narrative of defiance and resilience against oppression, “The Handmaid’s Tale” opera, based on Margaret Atwood’s renowned novel, unfolds with a score by Poul Ruders that intertwines medieval chants and gospel music.


The minimalist libretto by Paul Bentley captures the stark brutality of the Republic of Gilead, where women, stripped of their rights, grapple with daily terror. Handmaid Offred challenges the regime, refusing to relinquish her identity and autonomy, prompting reflections on state power and the precarious nature of freedom.

I found the performance entertaining, enriching, disturbing, and chilling. I had never read the book or even watched the television series so it packed a punch.

The performance, led by conductor Joanna Carneiro, featured an outstanding cast comprising mezzo-soprano Kate Lindsey in the role of Offred, former ENO Harewood Artist Nadine Benjamin MBE as Moira, Susan Bickley as Offred’s mother, soprano Rachel Nicholls as Aunt Lydia, Avery Amereau as Serena Joy, James Creswell as The Commander, Juliet Stevenson CBE as Professor Pieixoto, and ENO Harewood Artist John Findon as Luke.

Tickets are available for purchase to attend the show, with the current run scheduled until February 15, 2024.
